AtlaMed’s East LA Meets Napa: World Tour – Friday July 15, 201616

Pairing gourmet Latin cuisine with fine wines, East LA Meets Napa is a unique event that celebrates the richness of Latin food and the success of Latino owned vineyards in California. East LA Meets Napa World Tour takes us on a wine tasting journey stretching from the famed Napa Valley, through the various international wine regions and beyond; an exploration of wines showcasing and honoring the roots of so many vintners and families. Patrons enjoyed tastings from more than 35 top LA restaurants, including tastings from various regions around the world, presented by world-renowned celebrity chefs.

Under the stars with Poncho Sanchez as the backdrop, lively Salsa Music and Latin inspired food and wine were the headliners to this amazing event. But the real story is how many Hispanic Napa Valley wine makers and winery owners have cropped up, no pun intended. This tells me that with a leap of faith the contractual wine workers have bucked the system and are giving their expertise now as being single vineyard owners. All of their wine knowledge passed down from generation to generation is now being used in its utmost capacity, as well as the fact that they are reaping all of the rewards, a true success story. I love that.

The food was an array of some Mexican favorites to a lot of fusion inspired dishes, everything was really delicious and the wines paired very nicely with all of the great varieties of food.

Some of the restaurants represented were: Artic Hotspot, El Portal, Salsa, Malbec Cuisine, El Incomparable, Gloria’s, El Tepeyac Café, Chichen Itza, La Parrilla, Tabachines Cocina, Del Frisco Grille, Pez Cantina, Prospect Gourmand, El Cid, Casa, Oaxaca, Yuca’s, Portos, and many more.

Some of the wines represented: Honrama, Vargas, Delgadillo Cellars, Voces Cellars, Ceja, Mario Bazan Cellars, Maddalena, Onyx Wine, Reyes Winery, Trujillo, V. Sattui Winery, Llamas Family Wines, Encanto, and lots more.

I had a blast and will have to go from now on, it was a true education in all things Hispanic including their glorious wines.
