This was a very fun way to spend Saturday afternoon in Los Angeles! A great way to get around in this part of town is to take The Expo Line, which I caught at the La Brea stop near the 10 freeway. It lets you off at The Rose Garden, The Natural History Museum, The Shuttle Endeavor and The LA Memorial Coliseum. So it’s really convenient. You can just leave your car in the Expo Line lot and hop on board. The LA Burgers and Beer is housed in the LA Memorial Coliseum, which just recently held the Special Olympics and was a televised event for both the opening and closing ceremonies. The reason why I mention this is because they had to make this old but iconic venue look great and it was looking pretty good this past Saturday.
There were so many restaurants represented and each one had a completely different take on a not so traditional burger. Some sliders, some parts of bigger burgers, some in-between, but all grilled right there in full view. The featured beers were a perfect blending of flavors as I am not a big beer drinker but partial to lighter beers, not wanting that bitter taste of hops and barley. But the ones I tried were served icy cold and paired terrifically with the burgers.

My top 5 favorite burgers were:
Animal – you had to wait in a very long line but the marble pumpernickel rye bread was huge.
Bouchon – the bun was a small sesame seed and the burger was really juicy.
Mariscos el Cristalazo – was a shrimp burger, which for me rocked my world immensely.
The Counter – Korean BBQ Steak Burger – was just what the doctor ordered. It was rich in Kimchi type of accompaniments, with a super great crunch.
Best of the day goes to, you know who you are. Mykes!!! He actually put a mini melted snicker bar is each burger. So amazingly different, wow, wow, wow!
Really great music as well under a tent near the huge arch opening. There were many bands and some how they all managed to fit the mood of the day, laid back and easy breezy.
So what more could you want from a casual day of new dining experiences. Everyone was on there best behavior, no weird inebriated people that I could see. Everyone enjoying a nice cool summer day, with a great afternoon breeze, and in such a historic venue. I would highly recommend going to this very fun event. I know I will be there next year with bells on, big congrats Burgers and Beer, and of course LA Weekly for putting on a very creative food lovers event.
