There is a lot of street food vendors in and around Los Angeles. In the very hipster part of Melrose is a hidden gem. I met Doborah Pierce the night before at a Whispers show at the Saban in Beverly Hills waiting in line of the bathroom. She said I have been cooking all day and just had to get out and have some fun. She told me where she cooks and invited me to stop by for a plate. Well, the one thing I know for sure about Deborah is that she is a very hard worker, besides her food stall on Melrose she also is a limousine driver 2 days a week. I stopped by on Sunday at 3:30 after the world cup was over. She has a big, huge cast iron skillet cooking up some lovely fried chicken. She gave me a piece with some of her homemade macaroni and cheese, and with every bite I was truly in heaven. The chicken is succulent and perfect, and the macaroni and cheese was simply out of this world. She also cooked up some amazing fish and her renown spaghetti. Which is really fettuccini with a sauce – that has smoked turkey and sausage in it. It is very delicious and extremely filling. Her fried fish is off the charts as well. It is seasoned to perfection, light and flaky, just fantastic. Her menu is substantial; I will come back another time to try more goodies. Her spot is really a gem in this neighborhood. She has a very minimal set-up, and unbeknownst to me she doesn’t have to pay any monies to set up to the city. Her food is just so delicious, you have got to try it. She is no stranger to all things Hollywood, having worked in catering for many years in film and television. You will feel like someone has done some home cooking just for you, and its right there on the sidewalk in The Melrose district. But this new endeavor is Deborah doing her own thing, and if you are lucky enough to find her and taste her wonderful cuisine you will be coming back for more. This is street food at its best, tell all of your friends and family that Deborah Pierce and Top Shelf are not to be missed!!
